www.cbs58.com/index.php?aid=11227Hand swabbing to be added to airport screeningsAirline passengers are about to get a new set of instructions before boarding a plane: Put your palms forward. More and more passengers will be putting their hands up; to get swabbed for explosive residue. "As long as its not done in a discriminatory way say unfairly picking out people because of their appearance or ethnicity" says Christopher Ahmuty with the Wisconsin chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, but the ACLU is not entirely pleased with Wednesday's announcement. This measure comes after a Christmas day attempted attack where an Al-Qaida trained Nigerian man hid explosives in his unerwear. Ahmuty says he'll have to keep an eye on the Transportation Security Administration. "In the past TSA has not always done a good job following their own protocols and have done some crazy things" says Ahmuty. Among the crazy things Ahmuty says is a case he just filed. "A young man who was singled out because he was carrying flash cards in Arabic" he says. General Mitchell International Airport is on the list of airports to implement this step up in security and increase the number of random searches. Passengers we spoke to seem to agree; security comes first; "It is safety for everyone, it shouldn't matter" says one traveller.
Another tells us "we should be doing everything as much as we can to prevent another [attack]."Look for the new screenings at Mitchell International in the coming weeks.
